XF Remote Mode?

I've been learning how to manipulate Cubase Pro 8.0.30.0 on my PC via the XF's Remote Mode. I've figured some things out, but others remain opaque to me.

It would help if there were some document to read describing all the features of Remote Mode. But I haven't found anything so far other than a very brief description in the XF Owner's Manual.

Does the documentation I would like to see actually exist? Thanks…

(I put a small piece of black electrical tape on the REMOTE button so that I don't have to see and be distracted by the blinking red light on the button when I'm in Remote Mode. I think Yamaha ought to design the light on that button to be steady instead of blinking.)

The Motif XF Data List booklet, page 149-152 should help.

We think that is a good use of electrical tape (although we recommend Gaffer's tape because it leaves no residual residue) πŸ™‚

I'm amazed that Yamaha hid this valuable information in the Data List. I would never have thought to look for it there.

I had never heard of Gaffer's Tape before. Good to know.

Thanks again, and Merry Christmas...

Not so unusual. Particularly since the DAW REMOTE function concerns other company's software... Logic Pro, Sonar, Digital Performer - and is developed in conjunction with those other softwares. The Data List booklet is the perfect place for all computer related information - those developing their own software depend very much on that booklet. It is written in a very technical manner. There is enough to scare the average user in the Owner's Manual without including all of this in there too. πŸ™‚ I guess it is also easier to update since the Data List is only published as a PDF - while the OM is actually printed on paper.

I'm surprised, too, but I'm surprised more people don't utilize the remote features - but the fact is most people do not. It does involve -yet another learning curve.
It is useful, however, particularly for professional studio use and those who do music for hire (i.e., those who make a full time living from their music).
We have many discussions over flashing lights - apparently too many people forget they are in Remote mode and think their instrument is frozen or broken. The flashing light can't be missed (which is just the complaint of those who dislike it!)

Gaffer's Tape is like Duck Tape (also called 'Duct' tape due to a common mistake) but Gaffer tape has a glue that does not leave any gooey mess... Used in theatre stage and movie sets. If you appear on stage and you feel tape is necessary -don't use any other tape to tape down your cables.

I'm surprised, because the screen on the XF looks so different in Remote mode. I would think that anyone who didn't pick up on that clue would not necessarily be helped any more by a flashing red light.

Then you agree with those of us who feel like you... But you can't have everything, as a good friend of mine is fond of saying: "where would you keep it!"

I would keep it everywhere! πŸ™‚

If Yamaha ever decides to release another firmware update for the XF, I suggest they add a Utility setting that gives us the choice of blinking or steady for the Remote light.

I've noticed that the righthand two thirds of the Remote display on the XF looks like it might be some kind of "live" display of, for instance, volume levels (see image, red circle). But I never see anything moving or changing in that area of the display.

If something like this is supposed to be happening, can you tell me what might need to be set up to make that happen?

Hold [F6] SHIFT + [INSERTION] to toggle the DAW Level Metering On/Off

The [INSERTION] button is located directly below the flashing DAW REMOTE button πŸ™‚

Ah. From page 148 of the Data List document, apparently. Knowing this will definitely help me decipher the rest of this cryptic section of the Data List. Thanks!
