Greetings! I am very recently blessed with an MOXF8 after 10 years of a Motif ES8. (That's now at the church, with lots of pipe organ voices, where I serve as minister of music.)

First, I have a basic question for which I've yet to find a clear answer: In general —

and with a flash board on board my 'board

; ) — is it possible to use XF voices on the MOXF?

Second, What voice editor application is a strong alternative to Yamaha's Studio Manager? It is astonishing that it seems not to have changed in any significant way, if at all, since I first tried to use it in 2005 with the Motif ES. And it still crashes on Apple Macs. Twenty years ago I got into Mark of the Unicorn's excellent library and editor software, Unisyn. It's no longer supported in Apple's OSX. I actually did all I could to keep a PowerBook G3 alive with its pre-OSX operating system — and increasingly stripped screws as I got inside it to upgrade this and replace that...!

Thanks for responding. Here's to making great Christmas, Winter, and Holiday music for the world!

Yes. Any Voice that can load into the Motif XF can load into the MOXF

The Studio Manager is no longer necessary to run the Yamaha MOXF Editor... it can now run "stand alone" or as a "VSTi" within a VST3 compatible DAW. There is now a single download.

It is astonishing that it seems not to have changed in any significant way, if at all, since I first tried to use it in 2005 with the Motif ES.

It has indeed changed completely. If you are looking at the version for the Motif ES which came out in 2003, yes, it still uses the Studio Manager host application and the Motif ES Editor was in two separate Editor entities... one for the "Multi-Part Editor" and a second called the "Voice Editor". That was eliminated in 2007 when the Motif XS came out. Since that time (Motif XS, MOX, MOXF, Motif XF, etc), the two Editors are combined into a single Program that handled both the Multi-Part Editing (for SONG and PATTERN modes) and the Voice Editing (VOICE mode). And then in the most recent update to this new combined form, the "Standalone/VST" single download version became available. So you are completely mistaken about it not changing and looking the same. It has, in fact, changed completely and never, in fact, looked the same.

The alternate Editing suite for the MOXF is from John Melas - He offers a Voice Editor, Performance Editor, Mix Editor, etc. and there is also a separate "Motif XS/XF Waveform Editor" program which allows the user to create Voices data compatible with the Motif XF (which then can be loaded into the MOXF).

If it crashes your Mac then please let us know what version of the Editor you are running - and we can show just how different it looks and works. If you were running Studio Manager you were running something extremely old. Thousands of Motif and MOXF users are successfully running the editor (even on Macintosh computers) - check and verify the latest version:

"Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8 Editor Standalone/VST version 1.6.4 for Mac"
This does not need and cannot use the Studio Manager host application (at all). so you definitely were not viewing the most recent version (in fact, not even the old version - looks anything like the Motif ES Editor that ran in Studio Manager, nothing at all like it.
