Am I supposed to "store" or "save" my velocity curve after changing it? The next time I turned on my CP4 it was back at "normal".

Yes, setting you would like to remain must be stored to the instruments Flash ROM. This includes Utility mode settings.
While in [UTILITY]
Press [STORE]
