Using Aftertouch to Bend Pitch?

I’ve been experimenting this morning, trying to get aftertouch to bend pitch in my saxophone voice. Here’s what I tried:

In the CRL SET for the Voice, I set up Aftertouch to affect PEG Depth. In the Element I want to bend, I set PEG Depth to 0, and the pitch curve to bend the pitch down.

This doesn’t work. I’m wondering if when I hit a note, the XF takes a “snapshot” of the PEG Depth setting of 0, and then when I press on the key and Aftertouch changes the PEG depth, it’s too late.

Or maybe it’s impossible for some other reason, or maybe it’s possible but I just missed some detail. Anyway, I’m stumped on the PEG Depth method.

The next thing I’m going to try is a duplicate Element tuned a half tone down, and Aftertouch will lower the volume on the Element that’s on pitch and raise the volume on the Element with the lower pitch. I’m skeptical that this will actually work well, but it’ll be fun to try it and see what happens.

My question is, is there some way to do what I’m trying to do?

Yes, and no.. My favorite answer. Overall what you want to accomplish is possible... Using Aftertouch to control pitch.

But here's why the ambivalent answer. AFTERTOUCH is its own category of MIDI message, PITCH BEND is its own category of MIDI message.
So you can not use one to control or influence the other. What you can do is use AFTERTOUCH to control Tuning. Coarse and Fine tuning are assignable parameters within the Voice's CONTROL SET
Press [EDIT]
Press [COMMON EDIT]
Press [F4] CONTROL SET
In one of the Control setup's
SOURCE = Aftertouch
DESTINATION = Coarse Tune
DEPTH = The amount you desire

PEG or Pitch Envelope controls what happens to a sound as time moves forward, and it will do this automatically. PEG is used to make scoops and drop offs and the like.
