I'm trying to record audio from the CP73 to a Ableton on my computer. The audio is received, but the volume is quite low. I tried going to Menu -> General -> USB Audio Volume but changing that only seems to change the volume of input to the CP73 and not output. Is there anyway to increase USB audio output volume?

The USB AUDIO VOLUME is audio returning from the computer when using the CP as your audio interface. Audio level going from the CP to the computer via USB is a combination of the three sections: Piano, E.Piano, Sub.

The main Volume Knob does not affect the USB audio output going to the computer. It affects audio going to your monitor speakers (sound system).

Is there a way to increase the USB audio level to the computer if the section volumes are already maxed? The USB output seems to be very low even in this case, and I've test multiple DAWs. Could it be an issue with the Yamaha ASIO driver?

Not an issue with the driver. The items that affect the output level are the combined output level of of each Section, the signal travels through the Master EQ — of course, most sounds a velocity sensitive so the input of effort translates to the output level. In other words, how hard you play affects the output level.

You mention low volume, volume is subjective. Low levels is different. The VOLUME is referring to how loud the signal is in the room. Output Gain is what gets output via USB and is what gets recorded. You don’t mention any values. Output Gain is objective and should always be associated with a value. When/if you say it is not loud enough, the answer is always going to be: turn it up. When/if you say you are not getting enough output level, gain, then define this by mentioning the values you see on the meters of the multiple DAWs you’ve tested.

Piano has a wide dynamic range, the more effort you put in the more output you get out. I’ll mention this next little story just to underscore possible causes. Heard of a customer who returned several keyboards because it didn’t get loud enough. I explained to the store, the difference between VOLUME and GAIN... Showed how you can turn the main Volume to minimum, yet still get Output Level via USB — because they are separate pathways. Turns out the customer had the EQ Section active but figured they didn’t want to add any EQ so they set the three EQ Knobs to minimum. Well, if you immediately know that reduces the output level dramatically, then you understand.

What levels are showing in your DAW?
What effort are you playing ppp, pp, p, mp, mf, f, ff, fff... ?

Is there a way to increase the gain of the USB output then?
