I have tried with 3 different USB sticks and the new update is not working for me. I press cursor up and utility and nothing happens. What am I suppsed to do? all the USB sticks are recognized by the Montage, I can put backup files on them, but update not possible.

Make sure nothing is resting on any of the front panel buttons. If you have any object, could be a cable, a wallet, a book, etc., etc., in touch with a front panel button this can cause the instrument to see more than [UTILITY] + [UP CURSOR] being pressed. This can prevent the updater search from beginning. (In fact, try not to engage the keyboard at all, in any way during the power up).

You must press and hold just these two buttons (and no more) on power up... continue to hold until MONTAGE, YAMAHA and “Searching for updater...” appear in the screen.

This is the most common cause of “Updater not working”...syndrome.
Let us know.

ah, wait, now on the 11th time it works. not that I did anything different...but the updater finally started...I guess it depends on the exact "way" you push the buttons at the exact millisecond or something like that?

It works best if you hold down UTILITY + UP CURSOR while powering up the synth, and keep holding them at least until the Yamaha logo appears. At this point you can release them.

well, maybe the update on the austrian site is not working? after I gave up on that one after countless fails and downloaded the update again from the german site, it worked on the second try. with the same USB stick. so far, I never had an update problem.

When the Austrian download failed, did the updater give any messages? Did you get the "NG" message? if the update isn't named correctly, or not in the root folder of the USB drive, it won't work.

If the updater didn't start at all and your Montage/MODX booted up normally, you didn't hold the buttons down long enough when powering on.

no there was no error message, it just didn´t launch, and I pressed these buttons the entire time from power on until the montage had completed it´s normal booting. the last time, when it worked, I pressed the utility button slightly before the cursor up button. and then suddenly, the update launched. well I´m glad it finally worked because the morph pad is lots of fun!

It finally worked because you removed the items resting on a button, (or on a key, or on a controller). I know you think this wasn’t it, but I am just as sure it was. Glad you got it working! Have fun!

One far fetched way the button combination would not work is if you had some form of button/key failure. Either a button you're pressing that doesn't work - or a button/key you're not pressing that is registering a press. "Button failure" could include resting your arm down on the piano keys pressing those - so sort of along the lines of user error - but I'm more talking about button failure as a hardware/switch/button failure. Including a spilled cola drink during a gig or just dust or just something breaking. I'm doubting that's it - but as time goes on - this kind of failure has a higher probability all things equal.

I think it is good to know that the system is very selective in calling up the firmware update routine - so you need to be sure no other buttons, piano keys, controllers, etc are being pressed/pushed/turned/rotated/moved/etc.

- It could be a problem with USB stick, not everything works. Use good quality one.

- It should be formatted on Montage/MODX. If formatted on the Mac, select FAT32. This format can cause problems with large size sticks, I had certain problems with 32 GB. Better to use small size, like 4 or 8 GB for updating OS.

- There should be only update file on the stick.
