Hi! Just got a MODX8, and I can't get it set up as an audio device in Logic. In the Audio MIDI Setup app it shows up as an audio device, but as soon as I boot Logic it disappears from the list. I believe I have the latest drivers/firmware/etc. I am on Mojave and the latest version of Logic.

Thanks!

On the MODX, make sure you have MIDI I/O = USB (a blue icon for USB will appear on the very top line of the screen when you have a working connection.

For Logic Pro setup, See their documentation for details.
You can follow this article on setting up a MONTAGE, just substitute “MODX”

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately those issues don't seem to be the problem. I'll describe as best I can what I'm running in to.

When I connect the MODX via USB after having set MIDI I/O to USB, I open the "Audio MIDI Setup" app in the utilities folder on my Mac. MODX shows up as an audio device in the Audio Devices window. However, if I open the MIDI Studio window, MODX disappears from audio devices. The same thing happens if I open Logic, and I'm not able to select MODX in the Audio section of Logic preferences. I can make the MODX reappear in Audio Midi Setup if I power cycle MODX, but only if I quit Logic. No matter what I do I can't make Logic see MODX as an audio device. It works as a midi controller fine, but I can't get audio over USB. I've followed the article you linked, but it doesn't seem to work. MODX firmware is current, and Yamaha Steinberg driver up to date as well. Logic is likewise up to date.

Please go to System Preferences
Find the icon for the “Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver”
Double click it
Please report what you find.
Thank you.

After messing around with this after work it looks like I missed a step in the USB driver installation, things seem to be working better now. I'm still experiencing some weird issues, but I'll see if I can figure it out before posting here. Thanks for the guidance!

Excellent.

Just as a ‘jump start’, the MODX can transmit Out via MIDI on multiple Channels, simultaneously. That is, a Performance with four Parts might be transmitting on channels 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Hi! How were you able to solve the issue? I’m running into the exact same problem now. My Mac stops recognizing my MODX as an audio device but it can send and receive midi. Thanks!

What version MODX?
What Mac OS?
What version of the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver are you running?
What DAW?

Current Driver is “Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver V2.0.3 for Mac macOS 10.15-10.12“
Current MODX is version 2.00
