Hi I was wondering in the arpeggios for techno, trance and house. Which notes are most used for the drums kits? Does Yamaha have some sort of arpeggio map somewhere with assigned notes per arpeggio? It would be very helpful so we could quickly make our own drum kits that work with several of the arpeggios.

You may want to review this article on ”MONTAGifying Motif...” particularly the discussion of the Drum Kit and the “Fixed SD/BD” option and the use of the Sliders to mix your principal drums... I don’t believe any kind of restriction was placed on the programmers what drums or even what Kits to use. But if you are building you own kits (highly recommended) the article will give you good reason to pick certain Notes for your Main Kit.

You can play one cycle of the drum ARP and analyze the MIDI notes. Making sure the settings are playing the ARP-generated notes and not the trigger notes.

Hi Bad Mister. I read the drum part of the article. One thing that wasnt clear to me is the tip on the element exchange and the fixed Bd/sd. It sounds like it swaps something but I couldnt make sense of it

If you are following the button pushes as you go through the article, you should observe that when you first call up the Performance, you cannot see the indicator for SD (snare drum) flashing in the screen... the BD (bass drum) is flashing in the screen indicating that moving that slider will give you real-time control over the bass drum (it is assigned to C1). The original snare drum is some other note (not D1) so there is no indication and slider does not control the snare drum. They did not force the programmers to use specific Note assignments — they were free to use whatever they wanted...
Activating “Fixed SD/BD” note shifts the Arpeggio phrase data so that the Snare in the Arp Phrase triggers the sound located at D1.
If you make the button pushes as you go through the article, you should hear, see and experience the features the article attempts to point out. The “take away” here is supposed to be:
if you have selected an Arp Phrase and you like everything about, except you want to use a different Kick and Snare, by editing the Kit you can place your selection for BD on C1, and your selection for SD and put it on D1. Setting the “Fixed SD/BD” = On, will use the sounds you have selected.
