hello guys. I have an opportunity to get an SY99 with two known problems - backlight no longer working and one key is "half" broken. For that key I guess I can glue some kind of wood.
I reckon, to test, I need to test every key initial and aftertouch, all wheels and buttons, audio out L/R/Headphone, and floppy drive (I don't have expectations on the floppy drive, being so old).
What other things do I need to check for ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Battery may need replacing. Cables may need re-seating and possibly a contact clean. Sliders/wheels/etc could use a contact clean. There are a few recommendations out there for specific types to use. It may be worth it to find a service tech. to give the keyboard a general cleanup with these items covered as part of the service. Doing the minimum may result in frustration as various things don't work well over time.
The SY99 has a test program that checks memory (ROM/RAM/battery), switches, controllers, disk, etc. You may want to run that. Documentation is available online by searching.

New keys are only about $5 on ebay, and they aren't too difficult to replace, I've done it a few times on synths I've purchased. If you are mechanically inclined, just replace the broken key. You have to take it out to glue it anyway.
If you get the part number, you can replace disk drive belts too.
I haven't replaced a back light. I am replacing the display soon in a synth I just purchased, once the new display arrives.
