Hello - i want to buy Steinberg AXR4 -U soundcard and i have Yamaha Montage 6 black.
And i see there is same driver for both - Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver
I have ASUS ROG Notebook i7 16 gb Ram use Cubase Pro 10.5 - but maybe i want switch to new Apple Macbook Pro with ARM chipset what will come this year and Nuendo 10
My question is:
Is possible to assign Yamaha Montage usb outs to Steinberg USB driver simultaneously with AXR4 - U?
When i will use AXR4 as main Soundcard in Cubase or Nuendo is possible record Yamaha Montage via usb output channels 1 - 32 or 1-6 to daw ?
Can i assigned the output channels of Montage to AXR4U?
Thx
Jan R.

Is possible to assign Yamaha Montage usb outs to Steinberg USB driver simultaneously with AXR4 - U?

It is possible to assign both MONTAGE USB audio outputs and AXR4U USB audio outputs simultaneously to a Mac computer by creating an Aggregate Audio Device. Each must connect to the computer via USB.

When i will use AXR4 as main Soundcard in Cubase or Nuendo is possible record Yamaha Montage via usb output channels 1 - 32 or 1-6 to daw ?

Yes, via the Aggregate Audio Device... both can be recorded to the DAW

Can i assigned the output channels of Montage to AXR4U?

Not via USB. The MONTAGE delivers its 32-bus outputs via USB directly to the computer. You can connect the MONTAGE (analog) via TRS cables to the AXR4U. This will give you Main L/R plus two assignable analog outputs.

To be clear... The MONTAGE USB Out must connect directly to your computer for audio.

EXTRA CREDIT:
When planning on setting up a studio situation what you must consider in the planning is what things you need to use simultaneously. What are the primary workflows you need? It is highly recommended you understand that the AXR4U is a flagship audio interface, and the MONTAGE is a music synthesizer that also features its own multi-part audio interface. To use the MONTAGE’s 32-bus system you must connect it directly to the computer.

Yes, you can connect the AXR4U and the MONTAGE so that all potential audio inputs are available simultaneously (using the Macintosh’s ability to create an Aggregate Audio Device that includes inputs from both devices). But in most cases this would be (serious) OVERKILL. Even if recording several musicians simultaneously, there is hardly going to be a time when you would need to record separate audio outputs from the MONTAGE while doing a full session using all the channels available to the AXR4U.

In practical use, separate audio Outputs from your MONTAGE would be used only when you need/want to process that particular sound with DAW based plugins or treat it somehow differently in the DAW. In other words, you gain nothing by taking an individual output from the MONTAGE if you are only going to mix it back to join the other Parts.

You’ll discover that everything is extremely flexible and extremely configurable. And there are many, many different workflows.

Highly Recommended:
Join Greg Ondo in his weekly streaming YouTube Club Cubase Google Hangout sessions. Configuring a recording situation around Cubase Pro or Nuendo and an AXR4 will put you at the cutting edge of audio recording. Because both DAWs are MIDI capable, you’d be wise to work your MONTAGE into the studio as a powerful musical instrument. Take advantage of MIDI recording as a methodology so that when it comes time to render your MONTAGE Tracks as audio, you can do so easily and freely...(without the need to use an Aggregate Audio Device setup, which is Macintosh only)

Once you know your gear reconfiguring things takes seconds (literally). Thinking that one configuration will do everything, or that everything has to be available all at once is something you think BEFORE you have the gear. A recording studio is configurable, creative tool. Because the AXR4U is 32-bit integer capable, you may decide that connecting the MONTAGE via TRS cables to the AXR4U is your preferred methodology... those are the things you will need to try and decide for yourself.

I have not worked with the AXR4U, nor the AXR4T, yet, but it’s on my bucket list!

Greg Ondo does the streaming Hangouts weekly — one is coming up in about two hours from the time I’m posting (1pm EDT... you maybe too late to get your subject into today’s session, but it’s a good place to learn about all things Steinberg).

I think this is solution but why not this support Yamaha Steinberg driver for Yamaha and Steinberg interfaces and instruments i need only the outputs from Yamaha Montage main and
1-6 usb and AXR4U as main soundcard - but i didnt try if its function as in this video - but i think it must work … what do you think about it?

If you absolutely, positively believe you need to record both audio interfaces simultaneously then I recommended the Aggregate Audio Device (Mac only) because as one of the notes that flash on the screen points out, the audio shift is compensated for on a Mac.. You can hear that delay.... “*Unless you’re using Mac OSX and Core Audio which has drift correction”

Asio4All (?) I have no experience using that under fire in a session, sorry, but that was just two inputs and the delay was apparent.

Trust me, ...life is too short to try to sort out delays that may differ on each recording. If you’re doing music (and the MONTAGE is a big hint that you will be), then TIMING is important! He tells you that. If you are getting high end tools like AXR4U, Cubase Pro, MONTAGE you still have to setup so that they can work at their best.

In the video he records two mics through two interfaces, you could hear the delay (disagreement about where audio is positioned) — yes it can be a big deal. That was not slight that was fairly obvious.

I would use the AXR4U as the audio interface; connect the MONTAGE with TRS cables to the back panel TRS Inputs. This still leaves you 10 more analog inputs... four Mic pre-amps, and six more TRS Inputs. (Or you could also connect the MONTAGE Assignable L/R outputs to two back panel TRS Inputs on the AXR4).

Again, you’ll likely discover that recording the MONTAGE as audio works well via the AXR4U using the analog outputs of MONTAGE (which are spectacular)... and the Rupert Neve designed ‘Silk’ built-into the AXR4U will make those mic preamps smooth as, well... (I’m drooling at the prospect!!!)

You may not need to render MONTAGE audio during initial record.
