I don't know how "montage actually remembered when I decided to switch the scene".

What I know is when you switch scene Montage send CC92 to Midi (and so to DAW).

You can add, delete or modify this CC in Cubase (and so switching scene).

The values for CC92 are:
16 for scene 1
32 for scene 2
48 for scene 3
64 for scene 4
80 for scene 5
96 for scene 6
112 for scene 7
128 for scene 8

(92 is CC default value for changing scene, you can change it at Settings>MidiI/O>Scene CC )

At the beginning, the presenter is interested in program changes - but you can (in the list editor) filter everything except "Controller" - and this will show the times where all CC messages were recorded. Look for CC92 and move these to the time you'd rather have the scene change happen.

There are many possible answers to this question. I guess first it will depend on which version of Cubase you are using and whether or not you have the Scene buttons set to send a CC (Control Change) message. If set to Send CC, the Scene cc# will appear mixed in with Track 1's data.

However, if you are using Cubase Pro, for example, you can isolate all SCENE and SUPER KNOB movements on their own Track... by opting to send System Exclusive messages instead of CC
- This is useful because you can Mute/unMute them separately from the data on MIDI channel 1
- This is accomplished using the MONTAGE Multi-Channel Recording Template... which uses the Input Transformer to isolate each of MONTAGE's multiple channel to a separate Track... on the way in to Cubase.

If you are using Cubase AI, your Scene and Super Knob movements will be documented along with the data on MIDI Channel 1. You will need to keep Channel 1's data active in order to playback your Scene events. In fact, to redo the Scene events, the events whether sysex or cc will be merged on Track communicating with MONTAGE PART 1.

If you are using cc92 for example, editing that Controller event will be done on the Track communicating with MONTAGE on channel 1

You set what the Scene button sends Out via MIDI, as follows:
UTILITY > "Settings" > "MIDI I/O"
"SCENE CC" can be set to Control Change # or set to OFF (which sends Sysex)
"SUPER KNOB CC" can independently set to a Control Change or set to OFF (which sends Sysex)

Extra Credit: Depending on what you have the SCENE doing, remember certain items like Arps can change either immediately (realtime) or at the top of the next measure. If changing ARP phrases it is recommended you set the individual ARP to change at the next "Measure" line.

(If your device number at Settings>Advanced>MIDI>Device Number is set to 1 or All (the default))

Thanks this was really helpful! I'll keep in mind the Multi-Channel Recording template. Probably will also make sure ARP changes at the top of the next measure going forward as well.
