Hi, perhaps a bit crazy appearing question concerning yamaha montage: is there any possibility to change scenes via footswitch (pedal..?).
Thanks for any helpful prompt answer.

Greetings Jost

You cannot currently switch scenes with the Footswitch. When I say "currently" I do not mean to imply that you could ever do this - this depends on what happens with Montage firmware and I have absolutely no insight into future firmware development outside of what Yamaha publicly hints at. There have been no hints of this feature. Speculating: it's possible, technically, for this feature to be added - but probability of this seems low.

Your question has come up before: https://www.yamahasynth.com/ask-a-question/controlling-scene-selection-from-a-midi-foot-switch

An alternative to the footswitch is to use a MIDI foot pedal which can send CC messages. See:

https://yamahasynth.com/ask-a-question/change-scenes-with-foot-controller

You'd need to buy more "stuff" - but it is possible to have something on the floor you push that is able to switch between scenes.

There are other solutions also contained within the threads referenced. You can use a footswitch to switch between Performances and each Performance can have what would amount to a different scene selected.

Thanks Jason for that quick answer. That was what I expected. It sounds probably a bit exotic. I'am a Jazz musician and really fascinated by the variety of montage for life playing. Especially the scene features had a special aspect to me. Playing sax for instance including improvisation about parts would fit to the flexibility of the scenes. This is notin the static as a fixed midi file or something else. So I arranged full scenes with different integrated arpeggio for accompaning myself. But for sax playing unfortunately I need both hands. Thats the very special reason for my question with the footcontroller.

If you're playing a line on the upper stack/palm keys or open C# - you can reach down and bump a scene button. There are rests too.

Advancing to the next Performance as a way out may not work if you want to jump from one random ARP to another random ARP (any one out of 8 to any other one out of 8).

Even the footswitch would not be best for this as it can only be set to next OR previous. A pedal-board with 8 buttons - one dedicated to each scene would work best. Others have used existing solutions (MIDI pedal board) and can work for this application.

I've never questioned the "why" people need foot switches to control their keyboard. I do think the previous thread represents an interesting bias that I do not buy into.

Thanks for providing your usage model to help illuminate why scenes make sense under foot control.
