Hi all Montage users.

UPDATE - I reviewed these to see if I still feel the same way and editing a few.

Lets have a new brief reminder of things we are hoping to see Montage do in next update. This of course does not mean anything we post here will be implemented. We should all learn by now that our requests may not fit in with Yamahas vision for the Montage. Thanks

Ill start with the ones I just have to have:
1. Memorize last search in category search
2. New insert and master FX modulated reverb, plus shimmer reverb
3. Better library management and importing favorites
4.CLARIFIED!! Ensure arpeggio (hold on) does not stop playing om existing parts when adding new part to performance screen. Currently the song gets interrupted if I am feeling inspired to add something new while playing.
5. A few onboard analog waveforms with some louder (raw) analog sounding grit to them (saw, square, pulse) Currently Montage waveforms sound a little too clean and filtered to me.
6. Heres an old one that never got fixed (the sustain parameter for assign knobs should be set to level not time) like all other synthesizers in the world.
Attack time is the time taken for initial run-up of level from nil to peak, beginning when the key is first pressed.
Decay time is the time taken for the subsequent run down from the attack level to the designated sustain level.
Sustain level is the level during the main sequence of the sound's duration, until the key is released.
Release time is the time taken for the level to decay from the sustain level to zero after the key is released.
8. allow setting arp hold on and off from performance screen

9. allow usb cable for direct connection to pc usb port so we can access pc as save location for Montage user files, backups etc.
10. allow more effect parameters to be assigned to knobs, motion sequence etc. (Examples: Part EQ settings (these bite more than the FX EQ) and reverb decay time.) -Yes electronic music changes these parameters while playing not just sound design.
11. have sidechain option for at least one insert effect from each category group.

1. Item in particular is a real pain.
The ARP Category Page.(Getting There)
How About. When we are in the Performance home screen.
We Have Already picked the slot/sound/channel. Arp on.
Then let us. Hit The Shift Button and slot/sound/channel. Taking us immediately to The ARP Category page.
Thus Bypassing the. Selecting the Motion Seq. Section.
2. Add Genos features. Revo!Drum/SFX And AEM (Articulation Element Modeling).
Personally
I would like an option for. The Favorites Screen/or Your choice of Screen. To show up on Boot(If it can already be done. I can not find it)
That is where I spend Most of my time. They are all picked. So I have What. I need for the Song(S) I am currently working on.
So Having to. Go thru 2 screens. Every time. 2 get there. is a little annoying.

Good initiative. Although I guess whatever we request now won't make it into 1.7 - unless it is already in. I hope for an early release which actually contains the stuff which is most wanted - by me, of course ;). My most important feature requests are:

  • Make scenes really useful by allowing to let parts muted in a new scene continue sounding until the keys and/or the sustain pedal is released (or if it is not the mute have a different setting to that effect, like keyboard control). This is by a large degree my single most important one. And I heard that also from many others. Everything else comes for me with a much lower priority. Yes I can achieve most of that using the assign buttons. But a) it is tedious, b) it forces me to sometimes use the AS button and sometimes the scenes for very similar things. And c) it does not work with key-off sounds.
  • Have a per performance transpose setting which affects all parts.
  • Have freely configurable MIDI input channels per part.
  • Fix the touch screen issue with repeated characters for a single touch
  • For the superknob have a blinking pattern which is not pulsing but which is like a metronome. That would make it much easier (for me anyway) to use iit as a tempo indicator.

+1 for Chris and Stephan. For me, allow to locate in a library the performances to be erased and especially that these marks can be seen in data utility performances. Or as a member advocated on another post, automatically build a library with performance stamped.

Well. my requests are pretty basic compared to you guys - I don't even understand half of them - but what I'd like is

1) An option to return to the page I started from when switching back from Performance Home to Category Search.
2) An option to convert 'Favourites' into a Library.

There are others but don't want to make the list untenable ... those two would make my workflow a whole lot better.

Thanks Yamaha! (In case!) ... a Happy New Year to everyone.

Not yet a Montage owner but I have one on the way. From what I’ve read, features I’d like to see are

1. 16 channel keyboard control. Channels 9-16 don’t have to have super knob control or motion sequence, just the ability to mute or unmute those channels via scenes. Make the keyboard control icons yellow on those channels, not green.

2. Local control channel like on Kurzweil keyboards. Any controller # received on the local control channel (that matches a Yamaha controller #) is treated like that controller. This would allow a pedal board like FC300 that transmits on one channel to be used on all parts.

3. Part transpose range of 48 or 60 semitones (looks like its limited to 24 like on Motif series)

4. Ability to mirror main outputs on auxiliary outputs.

5. Next version keyboard - an additional foot switch and foot pedal input. Would love a breath controller input and the bc3 brought back. VL and AN synthesis.

William wrote:4. Ability to mirror main outputs on auxiliary outputs.

I would like to have some more flexibility for the auxiliary outputs as well . Actually I would like the exact opposite of the above: Allow to mirror the aux outputs to the main outputs ;) . Although I found that out only yesterday during a gig...

To explain a little bit more: I am frequently playing a bass in the left hand and other stuff with the right hand. So far all the sounds go to the main outs. So yesterday the mixer complained that the volume and eq for the bass does not fit with the rest and that he would really like to have them on separate channels. Makes total sense to me and of course in principle this is easy to achieve. I can set the output per part. Great stuff! However: at home I usually play over the headphones. So the bass would not be audible for me :-(. In addition, depending on the venue they may not have enough channels to allow to put the bass on a separate one. So the only way for me to put the bass on a separate channel would be to change this for each and every performance I am using for a gig. Since this is about 40 for each gig, that's a lot of - error prone - work. Or I would have to duplicate all performances.

So the request would be to have a global override for the assignment to the auxiliary outputs. Something like "ignore per part auxiliary output assignment". A switch to mirror the auxiliary outputs to the main outputs would also do the trick... But since the global override is most probably much easier to achieve (it only requires to ignore the per part setting of the output when switching to a program) that's my request. Mirroring would also be nice but might need some bigger work and/or processor load.

Hello again -. after another weary battle with the Library 'system' - please include an option to add selected Pfs to selected Libraries. It would also be nice to see what Pfs are in Libraries stored on the USB key.

Even if we dont get any of these requests at least Yamaha lets us post our requests and probably does consider if its something most need or not. Other than that if we never get another firmware update again the Montage still so much in the sound department! Thank you Yamaha people.

Im not kissing up but I got corrected on something today and it made me think about being more appreciative.

Here's one I asked for a long time ago:

A SysEx message that would turn the Super Knob blinking on and off. I like the colors, so I don't want to turn the light all the way off, but when I'm not actually playing a song, the blinking is very distracting. I'd like a way to quickly turn the blinking on and off without going through a couple of levels of menus on the touchscreen each time.

Here's some more:

- Ability to select Performances to save as Library file (as mentioned many times)

- Ability to leave "Play/Rec" screen whilst playing back or recording Audio/MIDI

- Montage keyboard access to all 16 parts at once

- From Jason on a previous similar thread: I'd like to see X7P files which are basically X7B + waveform so you can save (on Montage native - not requiring Montage Connect) an X7P to a USB stick which is your current edit buffer performance plus its associated waveform file. You can also load an X7P which would allow for loading a single performance and it would overwrite only your edit buffer - not the user area. Then you could [STORE] the performance to add to your user area.

- More assignable parameters for modulation. There are lots of things currently unassignable :(

- Ability to tap values of parameters after offset by assign knobs (super knob etc) and store new performance with those settings as default.

- Addition of a Random curve type.

- Ability to audition Waveforms and Performances while in Contents-->Data Utility in order to know for sure what you're deleting, or ability to select from Category Search items to delete.

Hi I forgot to mention this one. If a part element is referencing a library waveform or library arpeggio (really library content of any sort) can the element tab or waveform or arpeggio name field be highlighted in RED? Sort of like an alert. This way we know that something needs to be imported if we are going to save the part correctly for creating libraries etc. This is helpful especially if we have a user waveform of the same name as the library one and maybe have referenced the incorrect one or a connection is broken etc. Perhaps the same feature can be implemented for live sets as well. This will show that something is not connecting properly or a sound might be lost.

+1 to Chris' request.

When I was new to the Montage I created lots of performances without making sure that they only reference user / built-in waveforms. So in essence I cannot unload a library because I fear that it would wreck some of my performances. So somehow being able to cleanup that mess so that I can safely remove libraries would be so great!
