Psuedo DAW?

Over the years, I've become more aggravated with trying to integrate a DAW with a synth workstation. I experience occasional significant issues using my current Cubase AI and Yamaha moXF8. I simply opened Cubase yesterday and it reset some moXF parameters (voices in Patterns), which caused me to restart it. (I've had a few other workstations that I used with Cakewalk/Sonar with better success.) For this reason, I've simply avoided using Cubase much of the time and try to work direct on the moXF.
But it would be nice at times to simply have a bigger interface screen for the moXF that mimicked some DAW-type features such as piano roll/staff; event list; etc. (extensive event & note editing direct with the moXF can be daunting with the small screen.) Possibly a dedicated software that would not require complicated comm settings and essentially act as another synth interface. No Download/Uploads, just a larger screen with additional views.
Am I dreaming?

They already exist. You seem to have the mistaken idea that the communication setup between the MOXF and your computer is overly complex. It is not. It is one cable, multiple communication Ports for MIDI, and for audio... one USB connection. Not that difficult. It is, in fact, quite flexible. Stop trying to convince yourself that it is too difficult and it will cease to be so.

What do you have a Windows PC or a Mac?

I have in the past made the successful connection to my Windows7 PC, but each time I open Cubase now, it resets ALL of my Pattern & Song assigned Voices. So I close Cubase & reset the moXF & start over again. I would like to know why that is happening.

But Cubase isn't suppose to work with the moXF in Pattern or Performance mode (?). If I remember correctly, I had to save a moXF Song as a MIDI file then send it to Cubase. Then I get to edit and play around in Cubase, save it, then Export it back to the moXF. And that is OK if I'm ready to finish a Song or just want to play with my PC.
I'd just prefer a moXF screen extension with "enhancements". No file upload/downloads, just a mutual interaction. Not being extremely technical (I'm just a mechanical engineer and need patience), I'm guessing it would be cost prohibitive to create such software for each individual hardware synth.

It’s happening because you’ve never properly setup Cubase with your Synthesizer. By contrast, when I open Cubase it sends the MIXING setup with all the Voices I used in the Project to the MOXF. I literally open the Project by title and touch the Spacebar to here it play. It automatically loads all my settings instantly.

It does not reset my Pattern or Song, in fact, it loads it with whatever sounds and settings I was using when I last closed it! As fast as you can imagine.

Imagine that! You really don’t remember how it works correctly, that’s my point! I don’t think you ever quite got there...
Try working with just the “Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8 Editor Standalone”... it lets you work in Voice, Pattern or Song Modes. And you can set it up so that when you open the File it returns all MIXING settings from the computer to your MOXF. If you’re comfortable working with the internal Sequencer, then skip Cubase, just use the Editor to assist you with the visuals and keeping track of your settings.
