Hi,

I’m planning to use breath controller with my S70XS for producing convincing sax and wind instruments like oboe, flute, etc… I know that I have to edit voice to suit this. I also know that there are few library that can handle this but I’m interested in doing this myself.

Can any one give me a basic instruction and knowledge to do this?

Thanks

For much of deeper programming of the S90 XS/S70 XS you will want to get the S90 XS/S70 XS Editor. http://download.yamaha.com

What you will be doing is biasing the control over volume and timbre to the Breath Controller. Currently, Voices are controlled (biased to) the key on velocity, the harder you strike the key the more volume output. In a fully breath controlled Voice, the volume will be reduced and stored at 0 (or some low value), and you setup in the CONTROLLER SETs so that applying BC will increase volume. We mention timbre as well because more realistic response is achieved when there is also a timbre change as intensity is increased, so you may also want to apply it to the filter cutoff frequency, so the sound brightens as well as gets louder.

In a CONTROLLER setup (Control Set) you can select a SOURCE (physical controller: BC), a DESTINATION (the parameter you want to control: volume), and set a DEPTH (amount and direction the controller is assigned to modify the parameter).
