I use the Song mixings in Master Mode so I can select from the 4 internal and external zones using the Performance Control. I have filled up all 64 of my song mixings and was thinking I could use the Pattern mixings in the same way, but it seems that is not the case. Performance Control does not seem to permit the same zone activation via the 1-4 buttons when the Master is assigned to a Pattern mixing as when it is assigned to a Song mixing. Not sure why there is a difference.

What are the options for utilizing the Pattern mixings with zones in Master mode to play up to four tones simultaneously from the internal tone generator?

Song and Pattern MIXING setups work exactly the same. You should be able to do exactly what you do in your Song Mixing setups.

In each respective mode that is true. But when I register a Master as assigned to a Pattern, the Performance Control button does not allow the same Zone activation and deactivation via the 1-4 and 9-12 buttons. So my issue is really with the Master mode somehow treating an association with Pattern mode differently from an association with Song mode.

When I use a Song patch in a Master mode setup, the Performance Control button allows me to turn zones on and off via the 1-4 buttons for internal tg and 9-12 buttons for external tgs. When I use a Pattern patch in a Master mode setup, the Performance Control button does not behave in the same way. When it is lit, the 1-16 buttons still seem to functions as individual track selectors.

I have two MOXFs, an 8 and a 6, and have observed this behavior on both machines.

The manual on page 129 also mentions that to have the zone selection available via the 1-4 and 9-12 buttons the Master should be registered to a Song patch. It neither mentions or explicitly excludes a Pattern patch, but based on what I'm observing I'm assuming the exclusion is implicit.

I would certainly welcome being wrong, though. Actually, I hope I am and you can point out what I may be missing to engage Performance Control when using Pattern patches in Master Mode.

Did a little more hands-on work to figure out how Master Mode handles Pattern Mode. The Performance Control button definitely does not provide the same control over zone switching when the Master is assigned to a Pattern. Instead it maintains its typical Pattern mode function of changing Pattern sections.

There appears to be no other way to turn the zones on and off than entering the Edit pages. Though definitely not as elegant as the zone switches, the knobs can be used to turn the volume of each zone up or down. A downside to this, however, is that it still steals from the available polyphony. Thankfully, 128 is significant enough polyphony that it's rarely a problem.
