I absolutely LOVE my MOXF8! Spent months reading manuals, watching Bad Mr tutorials etc. before purchasing. My preferred DAW is Logic. I used the Logic preset on the MOXF and Transport buttons didn't work. I downloaded Cubase and ran it and same thing, Transport buttons didn't work with Cubase either. I tried the different settings I found throughout the Forum here, MIDI IN/OUT, etc. I'm sure I've missed something and that my MOXF isn't defective.

I'm using a brand new iMac, MOXF 8. I've been using a Presonus Audiobox USB audio/MIDI interface. But now I've connected the MOXF to the iMac with the supplied USB cable. I know the midi note data/commands use Port 1, and the Transport commands use Port 2. But I cannot seem to make them control any DAW! Just wondering if there are any other suggestions. Or let me know what other information you need from me to help diagnose.

I'm sure somebody will probably reply with one or two sentences and solve my problem because I missed something so simple! Thanks in advance!

It is highly UNLIKELY that there is a problem with your MOXF (that simply is not how they break). Sorry I don't use Logic but we can help you on the MOXF side of things and can tell you what to look for on the other end in your chosen DAW (Logic).

Transport Control and tons of other functions that have to do with Logic will show up in the screen of your MOXF, once you have things properly configured.

You don't really tell us your vision of using the MOXF with Logic. And as you'll see there are several scenarios.
First decide if you want to utilize the MOXF using all four audio outputs (4CH called dual stereo) or simply as a single stereo device (2CH).

Press [UTILITY]
Press [F5] USB I/O (USB input/output)
Press [SF1] Output Channels
Select 4CH
If you need to change this setting, it will require you press [STORE] to write this preference into your instruments ROM. And you will be asked to Reboot in order for this change to be implemented. It will become a part of your instrument's preferences. And will remain this way until you change it - Store it - and then reboot.

return to UTILITY > [F5] USB I/O > set the MODE = 2StereoRec

Press [F6] MIDI
Press [SF3] SYNC
Set MIDI Sync = auto
Set SeqCtrl (Sequencer Control) as you require, if you are going to be running the internal sequencer to transfer MIDI data you will want to at least set this to IN/OUT. If not you leave this Off. This has to do with the MOXF's sequencer.
Press [SF4] OTHER
Set MIDI IN/OUT = USB

while in UTILITY
Press [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF5] REMOTE
Select your DAW = LOGIC PRO
Press [STORE] to write this preference to your system (all of your Utility Mode settings, or preferences, will be written into each back file you make with your MOXF. So that when you load your data, your MOXF will "know" how you like to work... So all this setup is a one time thing!!!

You will most likely (there are no absolutes) will be operating the MOXF in either Song or Pattern modes as these allow you access to 16 Part multi-timbral operation.... Where you can have 16 different sounds active at once.

Press the dedicated [DAW REMOTE] button.
Observe how DAW REMOTE is written on a specific color background. Look at your front panel for that same background... While in DAW REMOTE mode the front panel, including the Transport buttons, now are remote controls for your DAW. The buttons are retasked as hardware controls to remotely control Logic Pro.
VERY IMPORTANT: the bi-directional remote control surface commands will travel to and from the computer via USB PORT #2

Now if I was a Logic Pro user, here is where I would tell you where to setup Logic Pro to communicate this Control Surface messaging discreetly on the MOXF USB Port 2. Please see your Logic Pro documentation.

Your musical MIDI communication takes place on Port 1. But Remote Control must be isolated on Port 2. If you fail to isolate these messages on their own Port, touching the front panel of the MOXF may cause notes to play, Windows to pop open, and other strangeness.... Don't panic, it just means messages that should be exclusively on their own USB Port are being merged to Port 1 - get that Logic manual out...

Keep remote control commands isolated on Port2.

While in DAW REMOTE mode, the screen will give you feedback on what you are controlling in Logic Pro. Please see the DATA LIST booklet page 117 for the commands that Logic implemented for remote control... It's pretty cool actually.

Take your time, and you'll discover you can completely run Logic from the front panel of the MOXF!!!

Hope that helps.

THANKS! I'm now controlling Logic with the MOXF8! I feel like a "brush with greatness" by getting your reply Bad Mister. I've watched so many of your tutorial videos. My plan now is to learn Cubase, just so I can use all of the great interaction with the MOXF. But, I've got a few projects that I need to get done before Christmas, so I'm using what I know at the moment, which is Logic. I will say there seems to be a pretty steep learning curve with Cubase. I did download it and figured out that it would take me longer to get started than to just crank these songs out in Logic. I'm taking a week off after Christmas for a driving vacation through Louisiana. Think I may just have to tote the MOXF8 with me for a "learning" vacation. One of the reasons I got the 8 was because of the full keys yet the light overall weight of the entire unit. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this thing. Wish I had more hours to sit, learn, customize, etc. The audio interface was not a deciding factor in my choice but I'm finding I'm using it more and more. Thanks again for your quick reply.

Transport controls are fine now, but I have a glitch of some sort, it seems. Picture below is what displays after pressing Daw Remote button. And now A3 doesn't transmit "note on" data. But it DOES transmit "note off" for A3. All keys around it transmit as normal but A3. MOXF is in Voice mode. Any thoughts on this particular issue? I'm positive if I had more time I could trace it down/back to whatever the problem is. But time is not on my side at this point. Thanks again!!

These sound like two separate issues.

1) What is in the screen is showing the Yamaha soft synth YC-3B remote template... and that your knobs are set to send cc74 (Cutoff0, cc71 (Resonance), cc73 (Attack) and cc72 (Release) - the YC-3B is a Tone Wheel Organ emulation (VST) plug-in.

2) Not sure what you are describing.... "note" A3 (the A above middle C) is not transmitting NOTE-ON... which means nothing is sent when you press the key, then how do you determine that is sending NOTE-OFF? Silence at Note-On would leave nothing to be turned Off ???
You also say this is only happening when you are in DAW REMOTE mode or is this at all times?

As far as I know, you cannot run the Yamaha YC-3B (VST) plug-in in Logic Pro, as it is using "VST" protocol (but then again I'm not a Logic user. So what on earth are the other notes triggering... Let us know.

1. That's what appears after I select the LogicPro in DAW Select window in Utility, then press the Daw Remote key. Which of course, now allows the transport buttons to work correctly, once I had Logic "learn" them. There seems to be no way to change the template in that window.

2. Logic has a window that shows midi note transmission by name. I can see note on and note off for each key played. It shows nothing when I press the A above middle C. Which displays as A3 in the Logic window. But it does show note off when I release the key. Only in DAW REMOTE mode. Update: It actually happens in Voice mode as well. And also, occasionally, G3, G above middle C, sends the note on, but NOT the note off. This is just very occasionally and seems almost random.

OK. Another interesting thing I just saw as I sent previous reply. In trying to change the YC-3B CC#'s or template, or anything in that window on the MOXF, the Up and Down arrows on the MOXF scrolled THIS browser window on the iMac! Left right arrows do nothing but up and down scroll this browser window. Once again, this is IN DAW REMOTE mode.

OK. Don't waste anymore time on this issue. It's definitely a LOGIC thing. I opened Cubase, Reason and Garage Band (even) and no problems at all. Unless you can tell me how to change the YC-3B template that shows up when I select the Logic template for control! And the scrolling windows from the arrow keys on MOXF. Thanks!

You need to check out page 117 of the DATA LIST booklet to see what your front panel buttons are retasked to control in Logic. For example, the BANK INC/DEC buttons will change the TEMPLATE currently showing. You can select from some 50 possible templates.

Jeff - I am trying to use my MOXF6 transport controls with Logic Pro X and running into the same YC-3B (VST) screen that you posted (when I hit DAW REMOTE). I uninstalled the YC-3B VST from my Mac (I had previously downloaded it when I used Cubase), but it didn't help. Were you able to clear it using Phil's suggested approach (the BANK INC/DEC buttons)? What I'm trying to do is just get back to the main DAW REMOTE screen.

Happy to reach out to via email if you want to discuss this.

David
