How do I ensure a Voice's individual effects remain intact when creating PERFORMANCES (Splits or Layers) on a MOXF8?

Also, do these still apply in SONG MIXING mode?

I can't seem to find any detail on this in the MOXF8 docs unless I am looking in the wrong place?

A Voice's individual Effects are called its Insertion Effects. The MOXF can recall the dual Insertion Effects for as many as eight Parts simultaneously.
Insertion Effects are part of the Voice and can be routed to on a per oscillator (Element) basis.

You determine which PARTS are recalling their Dual Insertion Effects as follows:

In PERFORMANCE mode, all four internal Parts plus the A/D Inout Part can have their own dual Insertion Effect
From the main screen
Press [F6] EFFECT> to take the shortcut to the Effect Edit area
Press [SF2] INS SW (Insert Effect Switches)
You have enough for all Parts to be set On.

In SONG/PATTERN mode, any eight Parts can have dual Insertion Effects
Press [MIXING]
Press [F6] EFFECT> To take the shortcut to Effect Edit area
Press [SF2] INS SW _ any 8 Parts, but only 8 "On" switches can be active, the default is Parts 1-8, so you must turn "Off" one to activate another

Hello,

I'm developing a series of Performances for a upcoming show. This post was helpful - thanks. Several follow up questions...

1.) How can I have the mod-wheel effect only certain sounds in my performances without effecting all of them? For example, I have an organ set for left hand (split) and I want to keep the rotor effect that is already assigned to mod-wheel, however I don't want the wheel to effect my electric piano (RH split portion of split).

2.) How can I assign Reverb and/or Chorus effects to various parts separately in the Performances?

I'm having trouble finding in these instructions in the manual.

Thanks,

Randy -

Each PART in the Performance has an On/Off Switch for each physical controller. So if you don’t want the MW to affect a particular Part, you can turn its “Receive Switch” to Off

From your Performance
Press [EDIT]
Press [1] to view Part parameters
Press [F5] RCV SW (ReceiveSwitch)
Clear the box for MW
Press [2], [3], [4] to review each Part... make the settings you require
Press [STORE]

Reference Manual page 69

2.) How can I assign Reverb and/or Chorus effects to various parts separately in the Performances?

The four Parts of a Performance can be thought of as individual band members sharing a mixer.

A Voice is an instrument/player.
When you create a Performance you place a Voice in one of four Parts. This is like four musicians sharing a four channel mixer.
Each musician can have two personal effects... these are referred to as Insertion Effects. These Insertion Effects are apart of the Voice, they are real-time controllable by physical controllers assigned within the Voice.

But the band’s mixer has two Aux Sends that feed a pair of “shared” effects... Reverb and Chorus (time delay). Each channel of the band’s mixer has a Send to the Reverb, each channel of the mixer has a Send to the Chorus (time delay) processor. These are referred to as the System Effects. The Return from these “shared” effects is mixed back to the stereo Outputs.

The concept is used in any situation where Mixing music, be it live sound or recording studio. The Reverb and time delays are typically setup in this Send/Return scheme because the idea is to create the illusion that the musicians are performing together. You can recreate a specific size room. So sharing the Reverb chamber makes sense when the goal is trying to mimic the sound of music as people expect it to sound. (All musicians in the same acoustic environment playing together).

If you would like to break this convention, you can. Yamaha repeats most of the Effect Types found as System Effects, as INSERTION EFFECTS... so if you want to make it sound like each member of the band is in a different room or with a totally separate time delay environment, you can by reprogramming the VOICE (in VOICE mode), apply these as Insertion Effects, then use that newly edited Voice in your Performance.

Hi -

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Question 1 - Great, makes sense, works perfectly.

Question 2 - Well this was right under my nose! I was so accustomed to digging-in to learn the editing via the screen pages I completely overlooked that many of the controls I needed were right on the front panel!

Thanks again,

Randy -
