Hi,

Just wondering if its possible to change the rotary speaker speed on an Organ by assigning a button control. (not mod wheel) I would be assigning a button on my external controller to control it. Its a Roland A-300 Pro which lets you assign any midi message to some of the buttons.

I’m playing in Master Mode using a Song with different Voices transmitting on different midi Channels

I’m assuming I would assign a ASF1 in control sets, and then assign the corresponding midi message to button on the external controller.
Can I do this without saving as a Mix Voice?

Just curious if this is possible and what the easiest method would be?

Thanks,
Ben

There certainly is no harm in trying. Typically, a button can send a single message when pressed. Whether your controller's button can operate as a "momentary" switch or will act as a "latch" will determine if this is useful for what you envision.

If it operates as a "momentary" switch, this means it's sends the max value when pressed and held, and the minimum when released. If it "latches" however, you may find that you can only send a single ON message, because pressing it again (could simply) send another 127 message. We have no idea what your external control does when you press it a second time, does it send minimum? Or does just send another On message (this you will need to determine)... Your mileage may vary!

Again you will need to actually try this with your external controller, to determine how the button operates (sorry, we have no way of knowing how the Roland keyboard behaves when you assign a function to its switches.

Hint: the default for Speed Control on the MOX is the MW, which remains (persists) at the location you leave it. This makes it act like an On/Off switch... All values above 64 set the speed one way, all values below 63 set it to the other speed.

You simply need to assign the control to match whatever physical control is assigned to control the "Effect Speed Control" on the instrument itself. It is designed to be operated by *direct* control. Controlling it from an external device, is not its prime function but can be done, if care is taken. For example, find a physical controller not assigned to change some other parameter in your selected Voice, then assign the external controller to send 127 (Max) when engaged and send 0 (min) when disengaged. Unless, of course, you don't mind it being "momentary". A clickable FS is an alternate option.

Say you select RB(22) a value higher than 64 = On, below 63 = Off.
64-127 will be Max, 0-63 will be Min.

You only need to STORE this to a Voice, if you wish to *keep* your Edit. You can store to any USER VOICE location or to the local MIXING VOICE location. If you don't mind setting it up each time, then you don't have to store it, but why wouldn't you store it? Nobody wants to watch you fidget around on stage programming during the show.

Let us know what you find?
