All of the above. Yamaha manufactures many of their own chips, not sure there is a really good answer to your question beyond - the Montage sound engine is a full six years beyond the XF. I think in one of the many videos (particularly the ones with the design team members) they discuss this.

I see if we can post an interview with some of the programmers and those close to the technology. Might be a very interesting read.
