Hi,
I have the MOXF8 and my question is how can I control the volume with the modulation wheel(MW)?
I'm using strings sound in performance mode (4 layers) and I want to control the general volume of all parts (from 0 to 127) with the MW?
Is it possible? if not, so how can I do it in VOICE mode?

Thank you very much,
A.B

The Modulation Wheel is a dedicated controller in the MIDI specification - it will always send cc001. This is a MIDI Channel message (Control Change message) defined as Modulation Wheel. What the Modulation Wheel does is programmable on a per VOICE basis. In other words, it does not have a dedicated parameter that it always controls - YOU have a choice on a per VOICE basis, what the Mod Wheel is programmed to do.

It is most often used to apply a Rate (for modulating) the Pitch, the Filter or the Amplifier - it is a DEPTH control - the more you move the control the more, of whatever it is set to do, is applied. When the MOD WHEEL is set to control Pitch Modulation Depth (vibrato) this must be programmed on a per Voice basis. Same is true for Filter Modulation Depth (wah-wah), and Amplitude Modulation Depth (tremolo). If you would rather use the MOD WHEEL to control VOLUME, you can do so by programming each VOICE to look to the MOD WHEEL for "volume" messages.

We should mention before explaining this, that a FOOT CONTROLLER is the standard method for controlling volume during performing on the synthesizer. The default condition for an FC7 plugged into the FOOT CONTROLLER jack is musical EXPRESSION (performing volume control) cc011. I would be remiss if I did not mention that at the outset. It is the most common solution, for same.

If you would rather setup your VOICES to look to the MOD WHEEL for "volume" control, you would need to program each of the Voices and STORE a version in your USER banks (that is what they are for) - The MOXF has 384 Normal USER VOICE locations that are simply "placeholders" until you either create your own versions of VOICES or load in a Library from a USB drive or the Editor. All 384 are found elsewhere among the Preset banks.

Call up on of your VOICES, one at a time, in [VOICE] mode and make the following changes:
Press [EDIT]
Press [COMMON]
Press [F2] OUTPUT
Set the VOLUME of the VOICE to 0
This will be necessary because you want to manually control the VOLUME via the MOD WHEEL.

Press [F4] CTLSET (CONTROL SET)
In one of the six Control Sets you will need to set the following:

ELEMENT SW = (--------)
SOURCE = MW (01)
DESTINATION = VOLUME
DEPTH = +32

Press [STORE]
Place this Voice in a USER bank location (and be sure to substitute your edited version into your PERFORMANCE).
You should probably give it a name that warns you about the volume being initially set to 0 and that it is biased to the MW !!!

Rinse and repeat for the other members of your Performance.
