Editing Sample from ROM

Hello. I wanted to confirm my notion that a sample in the ROM cannot be edited. Whereas, a sample in flash memory or the SDRAM can be edited. Which is why when I press [INTEGRATED SAMPLING] I see nothing if I have no waveforms loaded in SDRAM, and no Flash memory installed. I assume there's no way around this.

But, perhaps, via resampling, I can achieve what I want. And that is to use the existing ROM samples for "synthesis". While I could feed the Motif XF external sounds; it's highly convenient to use the wealth that lies within the 740MB ROM. Specifically, I want to take a sample, and "splice" a section to become my new "looped" oscillator-element. Whether that be the beginning, or anywhere else.

Is my opening notion correct? Am I on the right path to look into resampling?

Thank you,

dsetto

Hi, Welcome to Yamaha Synth!

Hello. I wanted to confirm my notion that a sample in the ROM cannot be edited. Whereas, a sample in flash memory or the SDRAM can be edited.
...Is my opening notion correct?

No, not completely correct. Samples in ROM cannot be edited - that is true. Flash Memory is considered a type of user eraseable programmable Read Only Memory... so Samples in Flash Memory cannot be edited, either. Only Samples in SDRAM can be edited.

You can easily and freely move samples from your FLASH BOARDS to SDRAM using the "COPY FROM FLASH MEMORY" Job found in [INTEGRATED SAMPLING] > [JOB] > [F3] OTHER .

This JOB can Copy any of the data on your FLASH BOARD to SDRAM (RAM being your working area). It's just like on a computer you can copy something from the hard drive into RAM (your work area) - then you can work on it, edit it, mangle it and then put it back on the FLASH BOARD. You are given an option of DELETING the data from FLASH or not when you COPY it.
_ If you DELETE the original your intention is to replace the stored/archived data once you've completed your editing session.
_ If you do not DELETE the original your intention is to create a new version and add it to the lowest numbered empty location when you use the "COPY TO FLASH MEMORY" Job.

There is no need to RESAMPLE a WAVEFORM you have installed on a FLASH BOARD - as you can simply COPY that data into SDRAM and then work on it as you desire. The 741MB of Preset Wave ROM is copy protected (naturally) and you cannot simply load a copy to SDRAM.

But you do not need to RESAMPLE a WAVEFORM from the PRESET data to build a VOICE from scratch in the Motif XF. You simply access it from within the ELEMENT screen.

If, however, you want to... "'splice' a section to become my new "looped" oscillator-element." - yeah, I guess RESAMPLING is a way to proceed. But we are very unclear on what that means ...splice is a word used in tape recorders and film editing where you add a bit of audio or film to the beginning, middle or end of another bit of audio or film. Well, good luck with that task... Yes RESAMPLING is the way to go... Recording the audio of the Motif XF back to the Motif XF... what or how you intend to splice - well, we'll leave that up to you.

Hope that helps.
