In this display, there are labels that say "Destination 1," "Destination 2," etc. This makes it look like they just go in order starting from 1. But in some displays, I've seen the number start with (for instance) 7. What are these numbers actually telling us?

There are sixteen Destinations for each level of editing. The screenshot shows the upper COMMON/AUDIO level of editing, you can assign 16 Source-Destination routings on this level.
Each of the sixteen PARTS can have its own sixteen Source-Destination routings. (Although only Parts 1-8 can be linked to the Super Knob).

As you can see the Destination is always a number 1-16. If you see Destination 7 first, it could just mean that for the particular Controller (Source) you are viewing, this is the seventh out of 16 possible assignments. The 7th assignment in a Part might be to the MW. The DISPLAY FILTER can show you just what is assigned to any specific controller. Touch "Auto Select", move the controller to view

You can view 4 Source/Destination slots per Page, four Pages. If you delete a Source/Dedtination assignment, the other just close rank, but do not renumber... This can be helpful when building multiple Part single instrument sounds... Basically you are out of assignments when no more "+" marks appear.

In the Motif you had just six Control Sets (Source/Destination) routings... Here you sixteen on each level of editing! Massive!
