Hi!
I am Spanish live looping fan. I use my MOXF mostly in pattern mode .... with loop on, and most of the time quantize semiquaver note.
I am having problems to work in this mode, because on the one beat, it cuts my notes on the recording.
At first it was a random thing, but now, the random thing is when it works well. Is a 2 years old machine.
The problem is always on the one beat, and it does not seem to be related to the sustain pedal. Same thing happens unplugging it.
If I play the loop starting by the second beat as the one, the problem is related to the new fourth beat (originally the one beat).
Same thing happens with quantize off with all notes NEAR the one.
If I take a look at the edit screen I can clearly see that the notes I have pressed on, or near the one beat are cut (staccato time).
This special occurs with chords 90% of the times. Less with one note ... but also 70% of the times. Only 10% of the times with drum sounds. (?)
If I edit them making them longer and press play .... sounds OK. But I am a live looper musician and I need to get the loop thru live at once.
When I play in quantize mode OFF ... I can see the notes affected are those who are nearly BEHIND from the ONE BEAT.

I am a also owner of a MOTIFXF8 .... and this problem doesn't exist or is very very unusual, because I don´t remember it. It quantizes very well the notes to the one and let them play it thru it also when it comes from beat 4.

Solutions ??? .... is it the way its build on the system??? HOPE NOT !!!

Thanks in advance BAD MISTER
Any extra data you need....please tell me.

I forgott to say....that happens AFTER recording. While I am recording I hear the sound ok (NOT CUT). I even have emphasize it playing loooong notes... When the MOXF plays it in loop ....IT SOUNDS CUT ON THE ONE BEAT!!!

I'm not sure I follow exactly what you are describing, but it would not surprise me if you've discovered the Motif XF handles this in a more smooth fashion. It does have more processing muscle.

If you are talking about notes that occur late in the measure before a phrase cycles to the top... notes that attempt to bridge that seam are cutoff ... that is how it behaves in the MOXF. It wants all note-ons and note durations to be contained strictly within the Section Length setting, this is so when a Pattern Chain is converted to a linear (Song) structure the placement of these notes is correct, logically.

Actually that's really what I want to say and it's happening. It always happens at the first beat. If I play ahead of the first beat, it quantizes adequately with the full length of the performance. If I play from the back the duration of the note is NOT that of the performance, it is the one that remains to close the loop cycle (4 bars, 8 bars or those that I have predetermined).
What is sure, is that I can´t avoid to play out of the ones beat, and less to do it ALWAYS ahead!!

This is really frustrating for me, because I bought the MOXF as a light version of my MOTIFXF (like many others), and with the conviction that I could use this function in the same way.

Especially annoying is that we are talking about the beat1 (mostly the most important beat of a rithmical loop). It isn´t also a solution to transfer the one account to another crochet, because on the crochet notes always come a lot of notes (mostly chords) and is still very visible.

I'm thinking about doing experiments to solve this problem.
1. Using my old QY100 and recording a track as a metronome that takes the first semiquaver as the first beat. All this synchronizing both machines via midi clock (no matter the master of the two). Thus the note affected by the cut will be the last semiquaver of the loop, which is a minor evil. Of course, I would completely disable the MOXF metronome. Sucks ´cause I have to carry a new machine and still haven´t solved the problem at all.
2. Another is to pre-record, or insert (step record) before the live loop performs two pedal sustain signals on the 16 tracks.
One exactly at beat 1:00 of 127 (ON) and one at time marker 1: 120 of 000 (OFF) (first semiquaver). Then I record over using overdub.

I have already tried the second one, and it seems to work as long as the interpreted note does not last more than one semiquaver. That is, you should prepare each track knowing in advance the duration of those notes on the first beat.
This is obviously totally S**T in the creation phase.

This last I discovered because in the cases of notes cut on the first beat, recording over a second loop a pedal signal on the one I got, like editing those notes later, give those notes the intended length. But it is a solution that requires a second loop and can also create conflicts with sustain signals recorded in the first shot.

Knowing now what I'm trying and how. BAD MISTER, please, give me some idea or some complements to what I am triying.

1. Thanks for answering.
2. I remain very aware of your suggestions. Any better ideas??? Still trust in YAMAHA. 😉

Sometimes a program change control messsage can cut off notes on the same beat
