I was playing the Bosendorfer Imperial Grand today, having a lot of fun holding down the sustain pedal almost continuously, listening to the whole thing resonate, taking advantage of the Montage's polyphony. I decided to record this into Cubase.

Once I was recording, I started having the experience of hitting notes without anything happening as a result. It seemed to me that Cubase has a much lower polyphony limit. Either that, or maybe the Montage is smart enough that when I hit the 129th note, it drops the 1st note, when I hit the 130th note, it drops the 2nd, etc. And maybe Cubase, once it's playing 128 notes, holds onto them and doesn't allow any subsequent notes.

But that's just a theory I came up with. I'd be happy to have someone who actually knows what's going on explain this to me.
