I bought an MX49 from a registered Yamaha dealer, and I thought that Cubase AI was supposed to come with that. But the only thing that came in the box was an activation code for Steinberg Prologue and a Yamaha Organ Emulator. There's nothing in the box for a Cubase AI download, and I looked very closely. And the URL for those downloads doesn't even work. What's going on? I am worried I got ripped off.

Sorry, you are having a very unusual experience (not the norm). In the box with the MX49 should be two sheets - a standard size yellow sheet with the offer for the Yamaha YC-3B organ and the Steinberg Prologue VST synths. If you purchased an MX49, then it is likely a box that has been around for a while... MX49 was released in 2012. Back then the Steinberg Prologue was, indeed, a download... since that time Steinberg has opted to include the Prologue program within the installation of Cubase AI, your code will simply activate the program (so no need to download Prologue any longer - it will be automatically installed when you install Cubase AI).

Also in with the yellow sheet for the software synths, you should have found an Owner's Manual and a white card (smaller than a standard sheet of paper - so make sure it is not hiding within the pages of your manual) with a red "STOP sign" logo, that is the "Stop don't throw away" Cubase AI Download Information card that includes instructions in several languages and provides the DOWNLOAD ACCESS CODE for the current version of Cubase AI.

Because the MX49 (2012-2016), and now the MX49 BK/BU (2016-current) have been in the marketplace for a while, some of the steps to get your "free" downloads has changed over the years. In an effort to make it easier (smh: I know, I know) some times they will update the routine. So instead of having to download the Steinberg analog synthesizer, Prologue, it is now apart of the installation of Steinberg Cubase AI program.

Once you get your Cubase AI, you will find it's already installed. (This all used to be handled by including a CD-ROM, but then the programs got too big to fit on a CD, the next was DVD but computers don't even come with DVD players any more so the DOWNLOAD became the only method to ensure that every customer could get access to the free giveaway stuff... and even that is not perfect, because not all musicians have online access... but it is the evolving technology that causes the changes in how we deliver the free stuff).

You simply need to contact your regional Yamaha distributor - the last page of the Owner's Manual will have the global contact information for the various regions of the world. (You didn't mention where in the world you purchased the MX49...) this site is seen internationally. Let them know your situation and they will be able to get you everything you need to get Cubase.

Again sorry, for your inconvenience but over a five year period - certain routines get updated and changed... I want to say improved but it is a work in progress (one reason we have active web support to reach out to customers who have issues) so you have found the right place. But the next step is up to you.

You may want to contact your dealer to let them know, but definitely reach out to Yamaha. Both entities want you to be happy with your MX49!

Let us know how you make out. Once you get everything, it will be worth the effort. And again our sincere apologies.

Thank you for your prompt and thorough response. I really appreciate it. I was a little worried, frankly, when I saw that the box was taped on the edges. I was concerned that the box may have been opened and therefore something might have come out, and now that seems even more likely, possibly if someone bought the unit and then returned it. The manual was wrapped in plastic and the "activation code" yellow sheet was in there, but there was no "card" with it. There was a sheet with a "stop sign" but it did not have any Cubase information on it. I see the last page of the manual that you're referring to, so that I can call the right number. My region is "USA". Thanks for asking! 🙂
