Which controller lane in Cubase should be programmed to change individual track volume on the MOXF?
I ahve conflicting behavior between the expression controller and the volume controller lanes.
If you could point out exactly which MIDI controller numbers, it would be helpful.

Thank you

Sorry, but we’ll need a bit more information on what you are doing and how you want to work.
Are you using the Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8 Editor VST?

Also depending on the version of Cubase you are using, you may find different options available for recording controllers.
To talk specifically about “controller lane” we’d need to know how you’ve chosen to configure your workspace... with the various Cubase versions, there are many ways to configure MIDI recording.

In general...
Expression cc11 is what you can control with an FC7 pedal plugged into the MOXF Foot Controller jack.
Volume cc7 is what you can control the MIDI Track’s overall volume and is what is reflected by the Fader (Slider) icons. Technically speaking cc7 is the main channel volume... all devices on the channel respond to cc7

You can think of Expression cc11 as the instrument’s own performing level... then,
You can think of Volume cc7 as the mixer’s volume for that channel.

If the mixer (cc7) is at 0, it will not matter where the instrument’s Level (cc11) is set.
But it is possible to have the mixer at maximum, but the instrument’s own level could be 0...

The cc11 always works *within* the setting of the main channel volume setting (cc7) ...this makes sense: If the mixer is not turned up, no matter how much you increase the instrument it can only be so loud.

Example, the FC7 as Foot Controller 1 sends cc11 Expression... say you are playing a B3 Tone Wheel Organ Sound. Toe-down on the pedal is maximum (127), heel-down is minimum (0). But say you never need to be as LOUD as the toe-down position yields, you would use the Fader on the mixer (cc7) to lower the volume of that channel. So cc7 sets the absolute maximum that the organ will sound because this is the mixer volume. Yet during your musical performance, you manipulate the instrument’s *performing output level* with cc11, Expression.

Hope that helps.
