I got a chance to spend some time with a MODX in a store. I quickly saw how I could create a split with one sound below and one sound above a split point. The problem I ran into was, if I decided my RH sound wasn't exactly what I was looking for, I could specify another one (via category search), but the new sound would reset the upper and lower note limits for the RH sound back to full keyboard range, so I couldn't continue to audition different RH sounds over the same LH sound, without re-specifying the note range for the RH sound every time I changed it. Is there a way around this? Perhaps a way to "lock" the key range settings fo a part, or some entirely different mechanism for selecting sounds for a Part, which inherit the key range settings you were already using for that part? (This is something I do easily on the MOXF.)

You should be able to click on the PART you want to replace which has the split defined (note limits). Press on the PART from the [HOME] screen. The left-hand side should show options including "Search". Touch "Search". At the bottom should have options for "Param with Part". There are several categories. You do not have to turn them all off for note range - but go ahead and turn these all off so that your current Performance settings will not be changed by loading the new PART. Select any new PART with the "Param with Part" for each category turned off.

The video doesn't break down what all of the buttons do. "Zone" will only show up if Zone Master is turned on - so you may not see this.
For note limits (note shift, etc) - I believe only the "Mixing" button needs to be turned off. That said, if you're using this just to audition sounds - I'd set all of them off to minimize changes to the current Performance when switching Parts.
