I would like to connect my Reface CS to 2 different hosts. One being my cellphone running Soundmondo. The other being my desktop Mac computer running DAWs. Has any one out there tried using a usb switcher KVM type device?
I would like to capture Reface voices onto my phone while recording with a DAW. I know I can have Soundmondo open on the computer, but I'd rather not. Soundmondo is never buggy on my phone, and sometimes is in Chrome.
Thanks

I’m not sure what a “USB switcher KVM type device” is, but I can give you an idea of what will work.

In my studio I connect the MONTAGE (this also works with the MODX) to my computer via USB (Set so that MIDI I/O = USB). These Yamaha synths when connected to the computer via USB work as both an Audio and MIDI Interface for an external device. They use the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver which lets them communicate with the computer via multiple Ports.

MIDI Port 1 is for the MONTAGE/MODX itself, while MIDI Port 3 is for any device connected via the standard 5-pin MIDI to the ports on the back panel. Then using the reface MIDI breakout cable I connect to the refaceCS/CP/DX/YC, whichever I wish to use. The computer software will see it as MONTAGE or MODX Port #3.

I connect my iPhone to the reface via a USB cable + Lightning-to-USB-Camera-Adapter for use with Soundmondo. Yes, both are simultaneously available and active.

The reface is able to communicate with the Soundmondo app for loading and capturing programs, while simultaneously responding to Cubase via the MONTAGE/MODX (acting as it’s MIDI Interface) on Port 3.

Additionally, you can connect the reface 5-pin MIDI Out to the MONTAGE/MODX 5-pin MIDI In and use the HQ-mini Keybed as a controller (it arrives in Cubase via MONTAGE Port 3)... this is useful to record front panel operation when using the refaceCS (be sure to activate MIDI CONTROL).

Now, if you don’t have a MONTAGE or MODX, you maybe able to do a similar thing with any device that can act as an external MIDI Interface for your computer (that has 5-pin I/O).

Hope that helps. Let us know.

Success! After carefully reading your post, I am able to run Soundmondo on my iPhone while recording from my RefaceCS into a DAW. Your detailed explanation helped me visualize the routing, I was then able to substitute the Montage with my Steinberg UR242 for midi input to the DAW.
I was able to take it a step farther, which is to use the breakout cable MIDI IN for my breath controller, the out for the DAW, and the Reface's USB for Soundmondo. This better suits my work flow - now I can record/input audio/midi data from Reface to the DAW; then switch the cables for having the DAW trigger the Reface after tweaking the MIDI data. Next step is to get two MIDI INs on a Reface. Maybe a midi merge...
Thanks again.
