I'm looking at different keyboard stands to use with my Reface YC and I'm finding that because it's so light it tends to move about. Can someone please recommend a way of fixing the instrument to a stand or if there's a specific type of stand where this wouldn't happen as much. Thanks.
When I was using the Refaces regularly, I used a 2 tier X-stand. On the bottom, I put my 61-key controller. Up top, I put a wooden shelf from an old bookcase. On that, I placed the YC on the left and the CP on the right. It was just wide enough for both Refaces with a little space between and to each side of them. No slippage, either.
Another solution right before my eyes, is a spare keyboard bench. With the bench on my left, I can easily play the YC's controls while the full size black and whites (a PSR-S950 in this case) with my right hand. The lower physical position of the Reface allows for a better overhead view of the controls and a relatively comfortable left hand position. I find that I usually need to adjust the YC's volume level after changing the distortion (drive) and I'm always moving the 'bars. The set-up using the keyboard bench feels just right.
When it comes to stands, don't always think "stand."
Answering my own question. One solution was literally right before my eyes. :-)
I use On-Stage SM7211B conductor stands for holding charts. I turned the stand's bookplate level, turned what was the top toward my playing position (seated), and locked the bookplate into place. Instant Reface table. The bookplate has a large lip, so one does need to turn the bookplate around.
The one remaining (minor) issue is the relatively slick surface of the bookplate and the rivet heads that protrude. The Reface doesn't sit on all four of its rubber feet and the Reface slowly scoots down the bookplate. A tacky rubber pad should help.
Seems like this solution would work with any brand/type of sturdy music stand or laptop stand.
Bump -- any further progress on stands for Reface?
I'm new to the Reface club and would like to use my new YC with an MOX6 (and separately, a PSR-S950). I play sitting with the MOX6 on an X-stand. I'd like to position the YC to my left, just behind or slightly over the MOX6. (Would probably use the same position with the S950 for consistency.) I'll have the YC MIDI'd to the MOX6 and mostly want to play the 'bars while noodling the black and whites on the MOX. I usually have a music stand in the middle because I need to be able to play from charts.
If anyone has experience with a media stand like the Gator GFW-UTL-MEDIATRAY1 or has other suggestions, I'm all ears.
