VOICE: All 512 Normal and 32 Drum Kit Voices will be converted to MONTAGE Single Part Performances filling 544/640 Performance locations in the current User Bank.
PERF: All 512 Performances will be converted to MONTAGE as four Part (Multi) Performances filling 512/640 Performance locations
What if the sum of the Normal and Drum Kit Voices plus the XF Performances is greater than 640?
The Motif XF cannot generate 640 Performances. I listed the maximum number of User Voices (4 Banks of 128 Normal and 1 Bank of 32 Drum Kits) when you opt to “convert” VOICE, each Voice is converted to a Single Part PERFORMANCE this includes the Arps and Waveforms that make them play. If you opt to “convert” PERF, each of the 4 Banks of 128 Performances, including the VOICES, ARPS, and Waveforms.
If you owned a Motif series, you might know that Performances used to point to VOICE locations... so that Performance data was tiny in comparison, but the MONTAGE does not “point” to a VOICE location. The MONTAGE doesn’t work like that, it has way more memory than the XF - if an XF Performance is referencing a User VOICE, MONTAGE simply converts all the data used in the Performance and places it’s parameters into the converted Multi Part MONTAGE Performance.
In short, you can’t generate more than 544 MONTAGE PERFORMANCES from an XF ALL Data File when converting as “Voice”
You can’t generate more than 512 MONTAGE PERFORMANCES from an XF ALL Data File when converting as “Perf”
Remember there are no “Voices” or “Voice Mode” in MONTAGE. A four Part XF Performance will occupy four MONTAGE Parts...
PLEASE appreciate the difference. Many don’t, they think it works the same as XF, it doesn’t. It’s MONTAGE.
