Hi Bad Mister please help.

I’m super new to MIDI and audio routing and everything probably needed to get started but I am trying.

I’ve had the Montage for about a week. Brought it in part because I loved the sounds of the Hammond on a YouTube video that I watched.

The said Hammond would sound great in a song I’m working on. Problem is I can’t get the Montage and Cubase 8.5 to play and cooperate.

I have followed the instructions in the manual and set up as requested.

I have followed the instructions fully but I am unable to play midi into Cubase and use the Montage to record performances properly. The work around I am currently using is to record everything in as audio and then

using the scissor tool `to cut it and move the audio to the correct places. I feel like a caveman.

In fact even when I record with the Montage as a midi controller (set in utility as Midi record to DAW) the Montage plays 4 notes for every note I play and I have to go into the midi editor and delete extra notes lying directly under the ones I have played.

I’m probably having issues with MIDI 101 and if that’s the case could you put me in to contact with some books / manuals I could read to help me understand just where I am going wrong.

Or please could you add some screen grabs of just how to set the Montage up in Cubase as a MIDI controller (including device / preference settings as well as Montage screen shots)

Also some screen shots on how to set Montage up so that I can record performance and how we can use the Chord pad feature in Cubase with the Montage.

I’m a bit deflated and feel like I have just entered the world of computer music (been using cuabse since 2006) as I struggle to set it up within my DAW lol

Thanks

Hi I'm going through the guide that you had directed to me and have come across the VST Audio System page which is showing Input latency of 16.395 ms and Output latency of 19.388 ms respectively. Do you know if there is anyway to reduce this at all please.

I am an access virus user so wondered if the issues I was having could be because the Yamaha was not on its own USB bus and so changed the USB over to USB 2 as i initially had it connected to a USB 3 port. Still the same problems.

I have attached a picture of the Project synchronisation set window as I think there is a difference between my one and the instructional screen shots. As you can see in the box 'MIDI Clock Destinations' each iteration of Montage is suffixed with '2 -' which is not shown in the official tutorial. I could be being pedantic but thought I'd bounce it to the forum in case it's indicative of a mistake in my set up.

I have followed the guide right up until the passage about the 'inspector' whereby my MIDI channel setting defaulted to channel 3 and when I changed it to 'any' as per the instructional screen shots I have not been able to get the PC to record midi from the Montage.

Please help

Go to DEVICES > DEVICE SETUP > VST AUDIO SYSTEM > Montage /Yamaha Steinberg USB > open the "Control Panel" set the buffer size.

Please read your Cubase documentation for setting this critical setting which varies according to how well your computer is setup to do music recording. Reduce buffer size to lowest value that your computer can handle without clicking and popping. Clicking and popping happens when you've set it too small. Set the smallest size without clicks and pops.

Your two screen shots indicate two things:
1) your computer thinks you have two Montages (congrats if you do)
2) you have yet to select the Montage-1 as the MIDI OUT DESTINATION. Place a check mark next to Montage-1 to send clock to the Montage.
