Is there a doctor in the house? Make your A3000 kick some butt when its hooked up to your PC. Square Circle Software's WaveSurgeon for the PC is now available, directly supporting the Yamaha A3000 sampler for quick and easy transfer and automatic mapping of samples within the machine. Version 2.55 now adds EX series support and a host of other new features. WaveSurgeon is a looping tool, designed to automate the process of editing drum loops. However, it has many more uses than editing breakbeats - vocals and virtually all other samples can benefit from its unique processing tools. WaveSurgeon can be used to slow down and speed up a loop, without changing its pitch; to transpose/pitch bend a loop, without changing the speed; to automatically pick out drum samples from loops, and then to replace them with others, and to overlay loops which would otherwise be at a different tempo, amongst other possibilities. SMIDI support allows super fast transfer of samples via SCSI, and A3000 support means that samples can be edited and sent to the sampler within seconds. Support for stereo sample editing is also included, whilst the new 'randomise' function makes pseduo-wavesequencing effects possible (and we all loved the days when synths could wave sequence!). Whilst a full sample detection algorithm is used, it is also possible to speedily chop the sample into segments of 8, 16, or 32 parts. The result can be saved to a MIDI timing template (in a standard MIDI file). When not used with an SMIDI sampler, WaveSurgeon supports the saving to standard Wave files, SoundFonts, and Pinnacle PBF format files (the latter two including full mapping information). SoundFont support ensures compatibility with a wide range of sound cards (although some may require conversion). WaveSurgeon features a full range of editing tools. These include the ability to add, move, disable/enable and lock/unlock points, and silence/reverse segments. There is also full windows clipboard support, allowing the user to copy and paste segments around within the sample. Export of a sample via the clipboard to a dedicated sample editing program is also possible, allowing external processing before being pasted back into WaveSurgeon.
